FTC’s Annual Report on the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA or Act) requires the Federal Trade Commission (FTC or Commission) to make an annual report of FDCPA administrative and enforcement actions to Congress. In April, the FTC released its 2003 report, which reports on 2002 actions and experiences. Following is a summary of the FTC’s report. Please note that NARCA is summarizing the report, not interpreting the findings. Additionally, the report does not differentiate between collection attorneys and collection agencies – all statistics reported are based on the actions of “third-party collectors,â€
