Steve Conley practices consumer protection law in the greater New Orleans area, with offices in Metairie and in Mandeville. He represents consumers in a variety of legal matters, including consumers being harassed or unfairly taken advantage of by collection agencies.
Since 1994, he has represented consumers by filing suit against unscrupulous debt collectors under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, as well as by defending consumers who are being sued on alleged debts. He brings actions against collection agencies both on an individual and class action basis.
He graduated from Tulane Law School in 1991. While at Tulane, he was a member of the Tulane Law Review and published Lejeune v. Rayne Branch Hospital: Allowing Bystander Mental Anguish Claims in Louisiana, 65 Tul. L. Rev. 918 (1991). He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1988 where he was a member of the Honors College.
He is admitted to practice law in all state courts in Louisiana, as well as in the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the District of Colorado.
He also represents consumers who are the victims of unfair mortgage lending and mortgage loan refinancing practices, including those taken by predatory lending schemes. In addition, he represents consumers with credit disputes, who are victims of false or misleading credit reporting. He also represents consumers who are victimized by deceptive automobile dealer financing practices. He brings actions in court for these consumers under the Truth in Lending Act and the Home Ownership and Equity Protection Act, as well as other state and federal law remedies.
With offices on both sides of the Lake Pontchartrain, he is able to meet conveniently with clients in Jefferson Parish (Metairie and Gretna), St. Tammany Parish (Covington, Slidell, Folsom) Washington Parish (Franklinton and Bogalusa), St. Bernard Parish (Chalmette), St. Charles Parish (LaPlace), Orleans Parish, Tangipahoa Parish (Hammond and Amite), and other areas in southeast Louisiana.
