PROFILE
Attorney Murphy is a trial lawyer who practices in the area of consumer litigation throughout the State of Florida. In his nearly twenty years of practice, Attorney Murphy has actively litigated cases under almost every aspect of the federal and Florida consumer protection laws. He has acted as lead counsel in the litigation of those cases both individually and on a class basis in almost every venue in Florida.

He is a graduate of Wake Forest University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in 1984. In 1987, Mr. Murphy received his Juris Doctorate at the University of Florida at the early age of 23. At the time, Mr. Murphy was one of the youngest lawyers in the state of Florida.

He is a member of the Florida and Georgia Bars and is authorized to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Florida, the Middle District of Florida and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Consumer Protection Law Committee of The Florida Bar and has served as Chairperson in 2004 and 2006.

Mr. Murphy is an active member in the National Association of Consumer Advocates since November, 1999 and regularly attends conferences and seminars sponsored by the organization. He has had the distinction of lecturing to attorney groups on commercial and consumer law issues nationally and on a statewide basis.

Mr. Murphy has been involved in numerous individual and class action consumer cases involving violations of federal and state consumer protection laws including the following published decisions: Owens v. Samkle Automotive, Inc., 425 F.3d 1318 (11th Cir.2005) [landmark odometer act decision]; Cannon v. Metro Ford, 242 F. Supp. 2nd 1322 (S.D. Fla. 2002) [auto fraud/truth in lending]; Brown v. SCI Funeral Services of Florida, Inc., 212 F.R.D. 602 (S.D. Fla. 2003) [class action certification of 9,000 members in truth in lending class action]; Martinez v. Rick Case Cars, 278 F. Supp. 2nd 1371 (S.D. Fla. 2003) [auto fraud/truth in lending]; Hobbs v. BH Cars, Inc., 2004 WL 124283 (S.D. Fla. 2004) [odometer fraud]; Tyrell v. Robert Kaye & Associates, P.A., 223 F.R.D. 686 (S.D. Fla.2004) [class certification in FDCPA action].

Mr. Murphy has a personal philosophy of advancing the consumer rights of Americans through both courtroom advocacy and the education of families and individuals concerning the consumer protection laws.
